Rainy Day Cravings: Warm Bowls to Try at Sushi Hiro

Tempura udon in dashi broth with golden prawn tempura

Malaysian afternoons can go from sunshine to downpour in minutes. When the rain rolls in, sushi is great — but sometimes you want something warm to wrap your hands around. Here are our cosiest bowls.

Ramen

  • Torikin Ramen: creamy chicken paitan broth with crispy chicken karaage and mushrooms.
  • Gyuzan Ramen: a savoury beef broth with Aussie beef and mushrooms.
  • For spice lovers: our spicy prawn-infused broth comes three ways — with tiger prawn (Tora Ebi Ramen), short neck clams (Asari Ramen) or scallops (Hotate Ramen).

Udon and soba

Pick chewy udon or earthy soba. The Tempura Udon/Soba comes with golden prawn tempura, the Kitsune is topped with sweet seasoned tofu, and our curry versions — with Aussie beef or crispy chicken katsu — are thick, rich and very comforting. Feeling hungry? The Kaisen Yaki Udon is stir-fried with prawn, scallop, chicken and mushrooms.

Nabemono: hot pots for sharing

Nothing brings a table together like a bubbling hot pot. Choose from Sukiyaki with sliced Aussie beef, Salmon, Kaisen (seafood) or Yasai (vegetable) nabemono. Every hot pot comes with udon, in your choice of shoyu or miso soup — and you can add extra udon or an egg.

Ochazuke

Simple and soothing: warm rice with a fragrant tea broth poured over the top. Try it with grilled salmon, prawns or unagi.

Little warm sides

Round things off with a silky chawanmushi, a bowl of miso soup or crispy agedashi tofu in dashi broth.
