Is Sushi Hiro Halal? Our JAKIM Halal-Certified Central Kitchen
Is Sushi Hiro halal? It’s one of the questions we’re asked most, so here’s the full answer. Since May 2026, the Sushi Hiro central kitchen has been halal certified by JAKIM (the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia), under the Malaysian halal food standard MS 1500.
The short answer
- Central kitchen: JAKIM halal-certified (MS 1500) since May 2026.
- Outlets: not yet halal-certified — we are working towards halal certification for every outlet.
What does halal certification mean?
Halal certification looks at the whole journey of our food — where ingredients come from, and how they are stored, prepared and handled — as well as hygiene and cleanliness throughout. JAKIM audits the kitchen against these requirements before certifying it, and keeps checking afterwards.
Why it matters to us
Sushi Hiro is all about bringing families and friends together around the table. We want everyone to feel welcome and at ease when they dine with us, and having our central kitchen certified is an important step towards that.
What’s next: halal at every outlet
We’re now working towards halal certification for all of our outlets. Until then, please note that our outlets themselves are not yet halal certified — only the central kitchen is. We’ll share the good news here and on our social media as soon as each outlet is certified.
